Two years ago I uploaded a World of Warcraft video in a bit of a hurry, in order to release it before the game's first expansion. I had absolutely no clue whatsoever that it was to become my biggest success, and as I speak there are many people watching it for the first time or once again through p2p networks or YouTube. Over the last 48 hours, there have been like fifteen new comments on my YouTube video, and I've been told that it's had more than a million watchers for a while now! And today, I am proud to announce that this video's 2009 version will be out next March!
So, "Naxxramas The Movie" has been watched all around the world. Its success could be explained by the film's breathtaking rhythm, as well as its particular atmosphere, and those movie excerpts inserted inside the cutting. I like to report a fan's comment that said "It looks just like a 10-minute trailer!". At its release, Naxxramas was the game's hardest dungeon to master, and very few people had visited it.
Blizzard was clever enough to retune Naxxramas and make the expansion (Wrath of the Lich King, released in November)'s first high-end dungeon out of it. It was the one occasion for me to do something in this instance again !
During my lecture at the Video Game Festival in Paris, I was asked several questions after showing my latest WoW video ("Sunwell"), among them : "Why haven't you ever done another video with movie excerpts and stuff, just like Naxxramas ?" I answered I was contemplating doing it again, mentioning "Naxxramas The Movie 2", making the audience roar with laughter :).
Since Sunwell I've done a couple Counter Strike videos (Silver Arena et Ping Arena) and a trailer for Left 4 dead, but only directed towards French watchers. It worked very well, though my love for Blizzard adventure videos is still strong.
A few weeks ago, I was asked whether I could pop in a video celebrating the Chinese New Year and paying my wishes there. Well I accepted, and this video was shown all around the Chinese web, and it felt really good being watched and liked from the other side of the planet :P
I'm at 4:40, amid other famous videomakers such as BaronSoosdon and Olibith. That's when I announced the upcoming movie 'Naxxramas 2009', and it seems they've like it a lot.
I'm not sure about when to release it exactly, but the date will be announced in mid-February's incoming trailer. It already has a name though (and a very well thought-out one I might add) : "Naxxramas the Movie 2009". Why "2009", not "2"? It will be much more of a redoing than a completely different video. The cutting is still that brutal, the bosses get killed very fast, and there's also going to be famous film bits in it. Anyway everything in it will be new, from the sequences to the musics and voices, with a switch to HD 720 technology that changes everything.
I know there's not much that can be seen on the previous video, so here are some more screenshots to make you wait till the trailer is out :
