We mentionned yesterday the recent drama which took place on Twitter between FEARS and XGN Competitive. The American player recently left the team claiming that the latter didn't respect the contract he signed. In an attempt to clarify the situation, we offered Sam « Fenix » Spencer the opportunity to expose his point of view on these accusations. Here is the interview.
Interview : Sam « Fenix » Spencer by Skypper
Stéphane « Skypper » C. : Your former player FEARS publicly accused XGN through different messages, did you see his tweets ?
Sam « Fenix » Spencer : I saw the messages but to be honest with you I don’t feed in public with drama people. I didn't answer, I'm a pacific man.
Can you explain the situation on why would one of your former players say such things ?
Fears had an offer from TCM two weeks ago, but he didn't tell me. He told me this two days ago I believe. Had he told me two weeks ago, nothing of this would have happened. I apologized to him for not handling it better but it's business. FEARS can't be mad and say what he said when he puts himself in a situation like this.
FEARS blames you for charging him for a flight, what can you tell me about that ?
He left XGN when we had already booked his flight, when we had booked hotels, when we had booked everything for him. We ask him to pay his flight money back and he told us to screw up. So we talked to the owners and the managers of TCM and we tried to find something out with them with the objective to make them comfortable and make us comfortable. People have to understand that an event at Washington DC has to be prepared weeks ago, we can’t just throw money around. We’re not Optic, we’re not FaZe we’re not that rich so yes we want him to reimburse his flight. He can pay for and he should pay for, that is just and right.
The player accuses XGN of not respecting certain terms of the contract, among which the reimbursement of registrations in 2K and 5K tournaments. Is it true?
The whole thing about 2K, 5K, 10K not being paid is a lie, our contracts are straight. We paid the 2K, 5K, 10K, we take 10% off the winnings. We have a receipt of every MLG/UMG tournament. Anytime he needs credits he gets them, if it’s in the contract he gets them. We paid for other tournaments as well. We don’t screw players at XGN, we treat everyone who comes in this organisation like family and when you screw your family, you can’t expect them to be nice and happy about that. I’m not going to see my organisation disgraced because someone is mad, that is not correct at all.
Twitting stuff or saying anything wrong like this to help destroy my organisation's name is highly illegal, it's called defamation of character in the US. You cannot do that, you can be sued for that.
Do you hate FEARS after those messages?
I don’t hate FEARS, I don’t hate anybody. I unterstand that he was mad, that’s understandable for someone to be mad about something. But he lied, he didn't tell the whole truth. If he was in our side he would just react like we do. He broke his contract instantly by playing with TCM because that’s in our contracts as well. But I didn’t say anything because he wanted to make quick money with TCM so I let him. I don’t have any problem with him. He’s a great player, a great talent, one of the best in the game, in what he does, but he can't lie and say false things because he's mad.
XGN is one of the organisations who made most changes these last months, how can you explain that? Do yo have difficulties finding a balance?
As I said earlier, we take care of people at XGN. All changes have been made for a good reason. We bought the spot to Automatic Reload, there was a team picked up to make the league. MerK was going to leave if we didn’t make the league, Blfire took a step back from the game and FeLonY got another offer and took it, it was nothing against them, we are still very close to them. For UMG Dallas, we didn't have any contract with the players, our sponsors wanted us to do the event, we did and let SpaceLy, KiLLa, StuDyy and Goonjar leave after the event.
The team is now composed of PHiZZURP, KiLLa, Nelson, and Lacefield. FEARS left XGN and we dropped Legal. He knew that it was coming because it didn’t work well with the team, Nelson fit better with the role he plays. We are not in bad terms, he’s a good person in my eyes and I respect him.
What are your objectives for future?
I think we have a very very bright future and I am looking forward to expanding this in more games. But as far as this team goes we are going to make big noise. I feel that we’re going to win EnVy Us, we’re going to do really well at DC and we're going to make a lot of noise at MLG World Finals.
A word for your French fans ?
I love every fans, any person from any country around the world, French, British, Australian, American, Canadian, Mexican, any country I love you guys. I know we've got French fans and I really appreciate your support, you guys are all great people. Organizations like us couldn't have a name and sponsors without the support of you guys.
I’ll go to bed better at night time and sleep peaceful after this interview knowing that I told the truth to you. He’s going to bed not feeling peaceful about this situation because he lied.
